October A ZRP officer from Kuwadzana, Evans Marerwa, and three members of his family perished at the 5km peg along the Wedza-Mutiweshiri Road yesterday afternoon when a Toyota Quantum swerved off the road and overturned before landing on its wheels.
The accident claimed seven people.
Update on Hwedza road traffic accident that claimed 7
In a statement issued by the District Development Coordinator for Hwedza the fatal road accident that claimed 7 lives yesterday, occurred around 2:50pm at Maruta area,5km from Hwedza centre along Hwedza-Goto highway.
According to the statement a Toyota Hiace combi registration number AFZ 4273 carrying 21 people failed to negotiate a sharp curve resulting in it overturning several times before landing in the ditch.
6 people died on the spot whilst 1 died on admission at Mt St Marys Hospital.4 people critically injured have been transfered to Harare and Parirenyatwa hospitals.
8 are in a stable condition and are currently admitted at Mt St Marys hospital while 2 people have been discharged.One surviving accident victim confirmed that the kombi was carrying Marerwa family members and coming from a funeral in Ruzane area, ward 11, Hwedza District.All victims are from one family.

vi)Yvone Meki F 33 Ruzane Village Hwedza
vi)Ethel Mhina F 1yr 7 months Ruzane Village Hwedza.
Family spokesperson Mr Dwayt Marerwa said the family is devastated with the tragedy and are still to come to terms with it He added that funeral arrangements are yet to be finalised as they are still seized with ensuring the injured get medical attention..
Recommendations have been made for a State assisted funeral.
