Vincent Mubaiwa (38) of Plot 8 Mucherengi, Mhangura was found guilty of domestic violence by Chinhoyi provincial magistrate Lisa Mutendereki. Man heavily bashes wife for giving her mother a bottle of cooking oil. A Mhangura man has been jailed for bashing his wife over cooking oil. Magistrate Mutendereki sentenced him to 18 months in prison, of which six were suspended for five years. He will, thus, serve an effective 12 months in jail.
Prosecuting, Tinoziva Chipupuri, told the court that at around 3am on February 5, Mubaiwa got home from the beerhall and entered their bedroom where he assaulted his wife accusing her of wasting food.
Edith Tinani (34) was bashed for giving her mother a bottle of cooking oil. Following the assault, Edith was now sleeping in her mother’s hut, the court heard.
One day at around 1am, Mubaiwa went to his wife’s sister Shelly Muyeduriseeking help in resolving their differences. It is the State case that Mubaiwa and Shelly went to where Edith was sleeping and woke her up.
While Edith was narrating what had happened, Mubaiwa punched her once in the face and kicked her on the ribs several times. Edith then lodged a report with the police resulting in the subsequent arrest and appearance in court of Mubaiwa.
