Winky D’s manager has been reportedly called in for questioning by the Zimbabwe Republic Police. Journalist Maynard Manyowa, revealed this on social media adding that the album launch scheduled for tomorrow will likely be cancelled.
Am told Winky D’s manager has been called in by The Zimbabwe Republic Police & is currently at CID Law and Order, at Harare Central Police Station. A senior Police source tells me he is unsure if its a detention but says this is more likely to do with Winky D’s album launch tomorrow, which maybe cancelled if clearance and permission wasn’t sought prior.
The source adds that the launch maybe classified as a political gathering or a gathering to air political statements, which the senior source says means Winky ought to have asked for POSA (Public Order and Security Act) clearance.
Also says Police are concerned that people offended by Winky’s songs may cause violence.
Another reasons he says police may try to put forward is that they apparently don’t have adequate resources to maintain peace, law and order at the show as their resources are stretched thin over New Year.
These among others maybe put forward as reasons for cancelling the show. If it does happen that they take that route.I tried and failed to get any official comment from any senior police figures. None of the three i know who can speak on behalf of the police as a whole is picking calls.
Earlier government denied reports that they had ordered a blackout of Winky D’s songs and asked Power FM to pull his interview. They denied this but the scheduled interview didn’t happen either

President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s panicking government has ordered the state controlled Power FM radio station to cancel a scheduled interview with Zimdancehall superstar Winky D.
The popular musician, real name Wallace Chirumiko, is set to launch a new album called “Njema” which has unnerved the government because of what it perceives as politically charged songs. Winky D was also supposed to hold an interview with Star FM on Monday afternoon and was supposedly cancelled on government insistence. Sources claim the government has even gone further to instruct all radio stations to stop playing his music especially the new album.
“The song Ijipita has thrown the Zanu PF government into panic and they are moving to ban his music. They have already told Power FM to scrap their interview with him,” the source told us.
The Ministry of Information however denied the government was involved in cancelling the interview;
“We have noted an article on an online publication making a false claim that Govt has banned one of our local artists from being interviewed on national radio. These are unfounded falsehoods. Members of the Media are advised to fact-check with us on related matters,” they tweeted.
