WE SHOULD NOT LET OUR PEOPLE DIE FROM AIDS.
I spoke to a British pharmaceutical company today, which is willing to help.
The UK company has agreed to a deal for a month’s supply of British-made antiretroviral drugs for £5.
This is not the usual price, but due to the situation back home, the company is willing to charge only its administrative fee to save lives.
I also spoke to leading Zimbabwean HIV specialist Prof. Rati Ndhlovu, who said that if the drugs are unavailable, Zimbabweans carrying the virus will die.
I have also sent a message to the Zimbabwean Permanent Secretary for Health about this offer, just in case there is nothing yet on their table.
I am making this public because I do not want this crisis to be exploited for profit by corrupt individuals when we can source these drugs at a lower cost than would be the case if tenderpreneurs become involved.
If you have a parent or relative who is HIV-positive and will be affected by the sudden cessation of American aid funding for antiretroviral drugs, please ask them to check with the clinic or hospital that provided their medication to see if they will receive anything following yesterday’s announcement. If
we can afford to fund a car largess of Chivhayo magnitude and add a top of the range Rolce Royce to an already bloated 101 car motorcade we should afford to fund HIV treatment without external donation.
