The Zimbabwe Republic Police have launched an investigation into disciplinary camps that have emerged in the country, focusing on one camp, Matrix Disciplinary Camp, run by social media personality and private investigator Tafadzwa Chidawa.
Police to Verify Legitimacy
The National Police Spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the development. “We need our police officers to go on the ground and find out the status of this thing which we are referring to, checking for things like, is it registered? Who is running it? So definitely, we need officers to go on the ground,” he said as per He stressed the importance of adhering to the country’s laws.
“We need to check and ensure that the law takes its course on illegal activities, if any. The country has got laws to be observed, that’s why I’m saying we need to check and find out if this Matrix is registered and operating in terms of the country’s laws.” Mixed Reactions From Citizens
The camp has sparked divided opinions among citizens. While many parents have praised the initiative, others have raised concerns about potential violations of children’s privacy.
One parent, who preferred to remain anonymous, said, “The camp is a good idea. Children need discipline, especially now with so much drug abuse. But we need to ensure that their rights are not violated in the process.” Another resident questioned the programme’s approach.
“We appreciate efforts to help our children, but who is monitoring these camps? Are they being run professionally?”
Addressing Teenage Challenges
The Matrix Disciplinary Camp targets individuals aged 7 to 24, aiming to address issues such as drug use, indiscipline, theft, and early engagement in sexual activities. Parents and community leaders are urging authorities to investigate thoroughly and provide clear guidelines for the operation of such programmes.
Commissioner Nyathi reiterated the police’s commitment to ensuring compliance with the law.
“We are here to enforce the law and protect citizens. This investigation will help us determine whether this programme aligns with the country’s regulations.”
The investigation is expected to shed light on the camp’s operations and determine if it complies with legal and ethical standards.
