20 miners initially feared de@d in Hwandara Mine accident
Shurugwi – An accident at Hwandara Mine in Shurugwi today sent rescue teams into a frenzy of activity with 20 miners feared de@d.
Reports received by The Mirror as the rescue operation progressed however, indicated that 10 miners were retrieved alive while one is de@d and two are still missing.
The report is that Makudo Mine collapsed .
Hwandara was closed in March following its sale to Chengxi Mining Company understood to be owned by Collins Mungangwa and a Chines national.
The District Development Coordinator and Officer Commanding Province were present during the rescue process.
Nicholars Gara, a prominent miner confirmed the incident to The Mirror and said he was financially supporting miners in retrieving their colleagues.
”
I can confirm that 10 miners have been retrieved in this mine and one has been pronounced dead. It is suspected that there two miners missing,” said Gara.
