THE Kuwadzana man, who snatched and kidnapped a five-year-old girl who was playing with her friends on the street, has been sentenced to two years imprisonment.
Tendai Nhambasora, 33, sent shock waves throughout Kuwadzana 3 in January when he kidnapped the child.
He was convicted after a full trial by Harare magistrate Ethel Rutendo Chichera.
He was initially sentenced to 24 months imprisonment and six months were suspended on condition that he doesn’t commit a similar offense in the next five years.
He will serve an effective 18 months.
Prosecutor Kudzanai Mudzamiri proved that on January 20, the five-year-old was playing with her friends outside her house.
Nhambasora grabbed the child, lifted her up and went away with her.
The child’s mother went outside to check on her daughter and found that she was missing. When she asked one of the girl’s friends, she was told that Nhambasora had taken her away.
She started searching for the child, with the help of the community, and was told that Nhambasora had been seen carrying the child going towards Kuwadzana 4 grounds.
A good Samaritans, who saw him carrying the crying child, confronted him.
The child asked for help.
