A 27-year-old man, arrested for the rape of an elderly woman in the Sekhukhune District in Limpopo, has appeared before Zaaiplaas periodical court, facing charges of house breaking and rape.
He was remanded in custody until August 8 for bail application.
The woman, 101-years-old, was raped in her home. The suspect is from the same neighbourhood. Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says the suspect had forcefully gained entry into the women’s property.
“Reports indicate that the 101-year-old victim was asleep when she was awakened by the suspect who tried to strangle her before he raped her. The suspect, who broke the window to gain entry, fled
the scene after the incident. Police were notified, and manhunt ensued. The suspect was identified and arrested at his home shortly after the incident,” he adds.
