Michelle Botes, known for her iconic role as Cherel de Villiers in the SABC3 soapie Isidingo, passed away on Saturday after a battle with cancer. Her agent, Suzi Howes, confirmed the news, expressing deep sorrow over her death.
Botes was celebrated for her portrayal of the cunning and complex Cherel de Villiers Haines, a character she brought to life with unmatched brilliance.
She first joined Isidingo in 1998, captivating audiences for nine years before returning in 2009 for another stint on the show.
Born on October 12, 1962, in Cape Town, Botes completed her high school education in the city before earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Speech and Drama.Her illustrious career spanned decades, featuring roles in numerous films and TV series that cemented her as a household name in South African entertainment.
Botes’ passing follows the recent death of another actress, Connie Chiume, a veteran actor who appeared in the Marvel film Black Panther in August.
The multi-award-winning actress starred in several South African TV shows, including Rhythm City, Zone 14 and Gomora.
