Teachers Call For Vaccination, US$550 Salaries Before Schools Reopen

Teachers have called upon the government to stick to the November 2020 conditions of service agreement by paying them the minimum US$550 at the interbank rate and to be vaccinated against the coronavirus ahead of the phased reopening of schools later this month. Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Paul Mavima, said teachers should not worry as the National Joint Negotiation Council (NJNC) engagement was in progress. Mavima added that the issue of vaccination will be addressed through the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education. He said: The engagement is in process. NJNC will meet soon to discuss those issues. We are pushing Treasury for speed on that issue. Kembo Mohadi remains Zanu PF Vice President and second secretary. Addressing journalists after the 349th ordinary session of the Politburo at the party’s headquarters in Harare on Wednesday, Zanu Pf national spokesperson Simon Khaya Moyo said the party had received and accepted Mohadi’s resignation but this will not affect his position in the ruling party. United States Renews Sanctions On Zimbabwe

 United States President Joe Biden has renewed sanctions on Zimbabwean government officials for allegedly undermining “Zimbabwe’s democratic processes or institutions”. This comes about a month after the United Kingdom announced its first set of sanctions targeting four Zimbabwean security chiefs since leaving the European Union. The UK sanctioned State security minister Owen Ncube, police chief Godwin Matanga, Central Intelligence Organisation boss Isaac Moyo and former Presidential Guard commander Anselem Nhamo Sanyatwe. Meanwhile, in a notice sent to Congress on Wednesday, President Biden also accused President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government of posing “an unusual and extraordinary threat to the foreign policy of the United States.”

For the First time  Zimbabwe recorded Zero Covid 19 deaths

For the first time in 2021, Zimbabwe on Saturday recorded zero COVID-19 deaths, bringing hope to the nation that President Emmerson Mnangagwa will finally open up the country to allow citizens to hustle for their families. In January alone, the country registered an average of 27 COVID-19 deaths on a daily basis bringing the total number of COVID-19 deaths in the month to 837 deaths compared to 244 in February. On Saturday the Ministry of Health and Child Care (MoHCC) reported 14 new cases, all of them local cases. The cumulative number of deaths as of 27 February 2021 stood at 1 463, 36 058 positive cases and 32 590 recoveries. 2020 students should repeat (PTUZ) spokesperson Peter Machenjera speaks

The teachers’ union wants the government to declare an order that pupils repeat their classes so that they proceed to the next level after acquiring the requisite knowledge as stipulated in the curricular. The Progressive Teachers’ Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ) is pushing for the government to nullify the 2020 academic year so that pupils have adequate time to cover essential elements of the syllabi, after normal learning was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. “It is almost a year now without proper learning taking place in schools,” PTUZ spokesperson Peter Machenjera said. “Considering that a human mind has the propensity to delete automatically any dormant files, it means that when schools reopen, most pupils would have forgotten concepts taught before 2020.&
