Mufakose Film Society Founder Stella January Dies
The entertainment industry and fans of Zimbabwean cinema are mourning the loss of Stella January, the esteemed actress and founder of the Mufakose Film Society, who passed away at the age of 55. January, fondly known by her stage name “Amai Abhibho,” leaves behind a legacy of impactful performances and contributions to the local film scene.
January’s career was marked by notable roles in popular dramas such as “Chapungu,” “Ndafunga Kure,” “Gringo Trouble Maker,” “Nyaminyami Amaji Abulozi,” and “Yellow Card.” Her versatility and talent as an actress earned her respect and admiration from audiences across Zimbabwe.
In addition to her acting prowess, January showcased her skills behind the camera as well. In 2018, she directed and produced a feature documentary highlighting the historic return of renowned musician Thomas Mapfumo to Zimbabwe.
